Why I Don’t Work With Plant-Based Naturopathic Doctors
If you’re a plant-based naturopathic doctor (ND), I’m not the right copywriter for you.
That may sound surprising, but here’s why: it comes down to values, integrity, and alignment.
And to explain, I need to share a bit of my own story…
My Experience With a Vegan Diet
Years ago, I adopted a vegan diet, believing it was the healthiest choice. Over time, however, I noticed my health starting to unravel.
Here’s what I experienced while eating plant-based:
Constant cravings for animal fat
Energy levels that plummeted
Daily bloating
Blood sugar swings I couldn’t control
While this was my personal experience, I’ve also spoken with many others who faced similar, and sometimes worse, health issues on a fully vegan or plant-based diet.
The Science of Human Adaptation
From an evolutionary perspective, humans change very slowly—roughly 1/10th of 1% over 10,000 years.
That means our biology today is still closely tied to that of our ancestors. Roughly twelve thousand years ago, humans were primarily carnivores.
It seems unlikely that, in such a short evolutionary window, our bodies could have fully adapted to thrive on only plants.
How My Health Changed When I Reintroduced Animal Foods
When I reintroduced animal protein and fat into my diet, the difference was almost immediate.
Here’s what changed:
My energy returned
Bloating disappeared
Hormones rebalanced
Nails strengthened, hair grew thicker
And I stopped being hangry
These results confirmed what I’d suspected: animal foods contain certain nutrients in highly bioavailable forms that are difficult (or impossible) to get from plants alone.
Take iron, for example. While spinach contains iron, steak contains heme iron - far easier for the body to absorb.
Why This Impacts My Copywriting
So, what does all of this have to do with copywriting?
Simple: I only do my best work when my values align with my clients’ values.
If I’m going to pour my creativity and energy into your message, I want to feel genuinely excited about what you offer. For me, that means working with practitioners who share a more ancestral nutrition perspective, rather than a strictly plant-based one.
Because great copy isn’t just about persuasive words, it’s about alignment between values, voice, and vision.
Final Thoughts
This isn’t about judgment. It’s about integrity.
I’ve lived through the effects of a fully plant-based diet, and I’ve experienced the benefits of reintroducing animal foods. That personal journey has shaped not just how I eat, but how I work.
That’s why I choose to work with naturopathic doctors and health practitioners whose philosophy aligns with mine.
When values align, the words flow naturally, and that’s when copy truly connects.
